The Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (Le Festival Panafricain du Cinéma et de la Télévision de Ouagadougou – FESPACO) is the largest film event on the African Continent.  FESPACO was created in 1969 in Ouagadougou by a group of film advocates.  The Festival was met with such public enthusiasm, it was institutionalized in 1972.
After the 6th FESPACO, it became bi-annual, beginning the last Saturday of February of each odd numbered year. 
The 21st FESPACO will take place from February 28 through March 7, 2009.

The International Arts and Handicrafts Festival of Ouagadougou (Salon International de l’Artisanat de Ouagadougou – SIAO) is held every two years in Ouagadougou.
The 11th SIAO will be held from October 31 through November 9, 2008.

The Puppet and Theatre Festival of Ouagadougou (Festival International de theatre et de Marionettes de Ouagadougou –FITMO) is held every 2 years in October.  The 11th FITMO will be held from November , 2008.

The Artists’ Festival (Fête des Artistes – FET’ART) is a festival of performing arts and plastic arts.  It is held every year in April or May.

The International Festival of Theatre for Development (Festival International de Theâtre pour le Développement – FITD) is held every two years in February or March of even numbered years.

The Street Art Festival (Festival des arts de la rue- FAR) is a Street Theatre festival.  National and International Artists offer free performances in the street.  It takes place very year in January.
